Meet the Instructors

Coaches Cheryl and Bryan Parker have each been coaching swimming since 2001. They bring more than four decades of experience teaching swimmers of all ages and abilities ranging from first-time beginners to national-level competitors. Together, they are a power couple of coaching! As a team they develop strong fundamentals, water safety, and a LOVE of the water! They direct their program toward learning the 4 competitive strokes with the goal that all swimmers grow to the next level. Coach Bryan is well known for the attention to detail of technique that he brings to his swimmers. Coach Cheryl is known as a pied piper of Memphis Swimming for her ability to make swimmers have fun and want to come to practice!

Coach Bryan began his career coaching summer league at Memphis Country Club where he was head coach from 2002 - 2013. He also coached developmental, competitive age group and senior group swimming with Memphis Tiger Swimming, where he met Coach Cheryl. Coach Bryan also held high school coaching positions at MUS and Hutchison. At MUS, he built a championship program that earned a Tennessee State Championship in 2016 and 10 consecutive county championships. He has been named Tennessee State High School Coach of the Year twice and Memphis Best of Preps High School Coach of the Year 10 times.

Coach Cheryl began teaching swim lessons in Knoxville, TN, before coaching summer league teams from 2002–2008 and later coaching competitive swimmers with Pilot Aquatic Club (now Tennessee Aquatics). She also served on the Southeastern Zone All-Star Team for six consecutive years, including one year as head coach and one year as age group chair. In 2009, she became Head Age Group Coach for Memphis Tiger Swimming, leading the program to a Southeastern Championship in 2010. After stepping away in 2015 to pursue nursing school, she returned to the pool deck to coach Varsity and Elementary swimming at Hutchison alongside Coach Bryan, whom she met while Coaching at Tigers in 2009 and married in 2013.

Our Swim Philosophy

  1. Swimming should be fun FIRST! Swimming is the best sport in the world and before we move to perfecting each child’s technique, we want to inspire a love of the water!

  2. Correct technique must be taught when kids are little! As soon as kids are water safe we begin teaching the four competitive strokes.

  3. Each level should build on the level before. Swimmers will move from learning to put their face in the water, to learning to be deep water safe, to learning the 4 competitive strokes. We will meet swimmers at the level at which they enter our program and take them to the next level!
