Frequently Asked Questions 〰️

What kind of lessons?

  • Group lessons run in two-week sessions in June and one-week sessions in July.

  • Each session includes four 45‑minute classes, Monday through Thursday.

  • Every group is always led by Coach Cheryl or Coach Bryan (sometimes both), plus at least one assistant coach in the water.

  • Group size: 5–8 swimmers per class, depending on skill level.

Cost

  • June: $350 — 2 weeks (8 × 45‑minute lessons; Mon–Thurs each week)

  • July: $175 — 1 week option (we recommend 2 weeks, but offer a single-week refresher for busy schedules)

Payment

  • Venmo, cash, or check accepted

How many weeks should my swimmer take?

  • Beginners: plan on 2 weeks of consistent lessons to see noticeable improvement.

Can parents stay and watch?

  • No — this is a drop‑off swim school. I modeled my program after the two‑week backyard lessons my kids took with Miss Lori when they were 3 and 4. Sometimes little swimmers do best when parents step away so instructors can work their magic. My son wouldn’t put his face in the water at first; after two weeks he was jumping into the deep end and swimming to the ladder while blowing bubbles!

Final Show

  • On the last day we’ll invite you in for the final 15 minutes to watch the new skills and learn cue words you can use at home to keep progress going.

My goal

  • To build brave, confident swimmers — fast, fun, and safe.

What to bring to lessons

  • Come ready to swim: swimsuit on, towel, and goggles with your swimmer’s name written on the strap.

Potty training

  • Yes — swimmers must be potty trained. No exceptions.

Carline & arrival

  • Address: 8971 Dogwood Rd., Germantown, TN 38139. We’re the house left of Dogwood Elementary with the little bridges — Coach Bryan grew up here! We recently bought the house from his parents and added the pool.

  • Arrival: We’ll meet you at the bench by the rocks and waterfall 5 minutes before lessons start. When dropping off, we’ll help your swimmer out of their car seat and guide everyone to the bench. Once the group is assembled, we’ll walk in together like a flock of happy ducklings.

  • Pick-up: You may need to help us buckle your swimmer back into their car seat.

Rain days & cancellations

  • Don’t assume lessons are canceled just because it’s raining at your house — it might be sunny here. If we cancel, we’ll send a text.

  • Canceled lessons are made up on Friday or Saturday at the same class time. Assume we’re swimming unless you hear otherwise.

Make-up lessons & exceptions

  • We cannot provide make-ups for vacations, birthday parties, sporting events, dance recitals, or other planned events. Coach Bryan and I have full-time jobs (I’m an ER nurse; he’s an IT help-desk manager), so our off days from teaching are often work or rest days. Thanks for understanding.

  • If your swimmer is sick or injured, let us know and we’ll do our best to work something out.

Waiting list

  • On the waiting list? We’ll text you as soon as a spot opens to see if you want it!

My Program Progression

No matter what level your swimmer starts at, I follow the same progression—and I’ll move at their pace. If your 3‑year‑old masters gliding and kicking, we’ll jump to freestyle. If your 16‑year‑old needs to learn blowing bubbles, we begin there!

Step 1 — Breathing Build comfort with putting the face underwater, holding breath, and blowing bubbles.

Step 2 — Floating & Gliding and breathing. Front and back floats, then smooth glides to develop body position and balance. Rolling to our backs to get a breath and picking up head to get a breath.

Step 3 — Kicking. Proper kicking technique using the kickboard and on the back.

Step 4 — Freestyle Arms & Kick. Coordinated arm strokes combined with an effective kick.

Step 5 — Freestyle. We will learn side breathing with focused technique work and drills.

Step 6 — Backstroke mechanics and drills.

Step 7 — Breaststroke & Butterfly. Introduce breaststroke and butterfly technique with drills.

Step 8 — Flip turns and open turns.

Step 9 — Stroke Refinement & Racing Starts. Polish stroke mechanics and practice explosive starts.

Step 10 — Individual Medley. Combine all four strokes smoothly in IM training and race preparation.
